VOTF BOSTON AREA WELCOMES THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW BISHOPS

Boston – June 30, 2010- Voice of the Faithful Boston adds our warmest congratulations to the two new Auxiliary Bishops of the Archdiocese of Boston. “We believe a thoughtful decision was made in selected Bishops-elect Arthur Kennedy and Peter Uglietto,” says Anne Southwood, chair of the Boston Area Voice of the Faithful. “They both have strong community ties and show a strong sense of spirituality and leadership. Their support for lay ministry is especially meaningful to me as we enter the fluid 21st century,” she adds.

In the recent months, Voice of the Faithful National has been exploring ways to garner lay voices in the selection of bishops, hoping this would bring about greater accountability and transparency. “It is our hope and prayer that these new bishops will be a source of healing and service to the local church of Boston,” says Nick Mazza, Voice of the Faithful National Secretary and co-chair of the Universal Church Reform team. “In the same manner we look to the local church to further the cause of healing by involving the laity to participate to a wider degree in the selection of future bishops in the local church.”
