Lent Reflections: Feb. 10, 2016, Ash Wednesday

“Even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart…”

Every year, as Lent approaches, I commit myself to a spiritual practice for which I hunger all year yet struggle to make time for. The noise of the external world creates a longing for the shimmering silence of prayer, the weightless peace of communion with God. Why do we deny ourselves this gift which is continually ours to accept, if only we would do so? So perhaps that is why Lent returns again and again, relentlessly offering us this chance for renewal. Maybe this year, we will say “yes.”
