We invite you all to come and celebrate this Mass as part of the larger community of Catholics that are influenced by parish closings and events in the Church today." To get an idea of how this large community of parishioners is handling their parish closings, take a look at the agenda for their third Parish Preservation Summit held on July 7. Sadly, readers must be aware that this is not a Boston phenomenon. It is a church-wide issue.

****SAVE THE DATE- NEW ENGLAND VOTF CONFERENCE, NOVEMBER 13, 2004, WORCESTER, MA

"It's Not History, It's Time For Renewal" will be the theme of a full day conference sponsored by the New England affiliates of Voice of The Faithful at the Worcester Centrum on Saturday November 13, 2004. The conference derives its name from the words of Bishop Wilton Gregory, President of the U.S. Conference of Bishops, who summed up the bishops' response to the John Jay Report on the clerical abuse scandal in the Catholic Church in the United States with the words, "It's history."

"By selecting this theme, we want to show the bishops and the entire Catholic Church in the United States, that the abuse scandal cannot be swept under the rug. The scandal also presents a unique opportunity for Catholics of all stripes to come together to renew and revitalize the Church," said Bob Morris, Chair of the event.

Confirmed speakers for the conference to date include Fr. Thomas Doyle, Pamela Hayes of the National Review Board, and Jason Berry, author ofLead Us Not Into Temptation: Catholic Priests and the Sexual Abuse of Children and, with Gerald Renner, Vows of Silence. A Priest of Integrity award will be conferred on a New England priest who has courageously stood up to the power of the institutional Church on behalf of survivors of clergy sexual abuse.

Information on the entire program and ticket prices will be forthcoming. We hope to see you in Worcester in November!
