Keep the Faith, Change the Church.

We'd like your creche photos ...

Be a part of our 2017 online Advent calendar

You are invited to participate in our popular online Advent reflections calendar for 2017.

Our Advent calendar comprises daily emails and webpages. During Advent, you’ll receive an email each day with a link that will take you to a page on our website featuring scripture, prayers, and reflections for that day.

We've offered these Advent calendars for several years now. Each year we use photos you take of your crèches. We want to use your crèche photos again this year, but we need new photos of different crèches. So, if you didn't send us a picture last year, do so this year, and if you sent us a picture last year, see if you have other crèches or crèche figures you can photograph.

Please go to your attic, cellar, garage, or other Christmas storage area between now and Nov. 17, the dealine for sending us your photos, and take out your crèche. Set it up and take a photo of the whole scene, or the Holy Family, or parts of the set, or individual pieces, like sheep, shepherds, angels, wise men, stars, and the like. You can send us as many photos as you like.

At our house, we have at least five Nativity sets, ranging from Fontanini®, to Playmobil® (the granddaughters are 11 and 16, but they still set it up), and including the crèche my wife and I bought at Sears 46 years ago on our first Christmas. The point is, we don’t care how fancy, common, large, or small your Nativity set is, just so it’s yours, replete with memories of Christmases past. And if your crèche has a story, tell us about it, and we'll use it in our captions.

You can take the photos with your camera, phone, tablet, or other device and then email them to me at nickingala@votf.org. Please include your first and last name, city or town, and state, so we can identify the photo online. Or, you can remain anonymous if you prefer. But please send us your crèche's story, too.

When you take your photos, get up close to your subject so it fills the frame, and if you have the ability, set the photo size to medium. Don’t worry if you can’t set the photo size. We can handle any size or format (jpeg, gif, bmp) you send to us.

The first Sunday of Advent is Dec. 3 this year. That seems far off, but, as usual, the season will be upon us before you know it, and we have to set up everything in advance and make sure it works. So, the deadline for sending us your crèche photos is Friday, Nov. 17. But the earlier you send them to us the better.

The incarnated Christ child lying in a manger attended by his mother and earthly father embodies our faith. And we aspire throughout our lives to possess the peace and promise represented by the Holy Family, set at the center of every crèche scene. So, we’re reaching out to our extended VOTF family and asking you to relive the nativity story with us this Advent by sending us your crèche photos.

Thank you, and we wish you an early Christmas blessing.
