Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I must report today that Ray Joyce will be leaving Voice of the Faithful as Executive Director on January 19th. Ray has accepted a new position with public television, which will give him more time with his young family.

As many of you know Ray has been a great asset to VOTF over the last 20 months. Among his many contributions are: implementing the Campaign for Accountability, increasing donations and membership, improving the national office infrastructure and balancing the budget. In addition Ray has been a wonderful, intelligent and sensitive person with whom to work with, as all of you who have had an opportunity to do so can attest.

I am pleased to report that Mark Mullaney has agreed to step in as Interim Executive Director on a part time basis while we conduct a search for a new Executive Director. For those of you who do not know Mark, he is an experienced non-profit Executive Director who has recently started his own consulting business which is part of a network of associates worldwide specializing in small to medium sized businesses. The skills Mark brings to us along with the skills of his network of associates, I believe, will significantly benefit us as we move forward. Mark has been an active member of Voice of the Faithful since the beginning and has most recently been assisting us with development focused on proposals to foundations on a volunteer basis. In addition we will look to add additional administrative resources to assist Mark during this interim period.

Mark will shift his volunteer time for VOTF to heading up the search committee for a new executive director. Mark led the last search, which resulted in VOTF hiring Ray Joyce. We will be assembling a search committee this week comprised of members from the Board of Trustees, the Officers, the NRC, the staff and the Working Groups.

This week we remember that the clergy sex abuse crisis first came to light for many of us when the Boston Globe broke the story five years ago this weekend. We have grown from a small group of concerned Catholics in a single church to a group 35,000 strong across the country. We do not always know what God has in store for us but we have to have faith that as we go through changes and growing pains that the Holy Spirit is at work and will lead us where we need to go. I ask for your prayers and support as we move through this next transition.

Inquiries concerning the new Executive Director position should be directed to edsearch@votf.org.

Peace and may the New Year bring you many blessings.

Mary Pat
