Statement From Jim Post, President,
Voice of the Faithful
Regarding Bishop Lennon’s
December 18th Press Conference

The Archdiocese of Boston has endured unspeakable pain and suffering because of the clergy sexual abuse scandal. Today, Bishop Lennon has outlined a plan to address this pain in his role as Apostolic Administrator.

Voice of the Faithful agrees with Bishop Lennon’s support for survivors, the safety of children and his efforts to foster unity among the faithful. It is encouraging that Bishop Lennon focused on the recipients of the Voice of Compassion-Boston Fund contributions, and will leave the decision by Catholic Charities to accept the gift of $56,035 in place.

However, Bishop Lennon’s decision to continue a policy of banning members of Voice of the Faithful from using church property is divisive. The continuation of bannings contradicts his message of healing and unity, and continues to be an affront to Catholics during this Christmas season.

Voice of the Faithful stands ready to meet with Bishop Lennon in response to his desire to further discussions that have occurred over the past seven months. Further, we believe it is essential this dialogue continue immediately in order to remove the bannings, and to address the issues related to the Voice of Compassion-Boston Fund.
