On January 6, 2002, the Boston Globe published the first story on Fr. John Geoghan and details of a cover-up of clergy sexual abuse by Archdiocese of Boston officials. VOTF vice president Kris Ward wrote this prayer of remembrance:

Lord of all times and seasons,
Child of Bethlehem,
God of the universe.

We come again to the
anniversary of scandal,
the loss of innocence,
the genesis of horror,
betrayal and disbelief.

Give us an epiphany of
endurance.
Manifest in us
nobility of action.

Reconfigure us with
the frankincense of Your
compassion.
Ennoble us with a myrrh
made into Your wisdom
Steel us like gold in the furnace
of Your sorrow.

We begin again. We turn to
You. We cannot be without You.

You are the center.
Hold us close to You.

We bow down to give You
homage.
Lift us up in Your image.
