Dr. Nick Mazza Candidate Statement

First, I accept the invitation by the nominating committee to place my name on the upcoming ballot for the position of Secretary. I accepted for some of the following reasons:

  • As a husband and father of a talented daughter, I believe that VOTF understands the injustice that exists in the culture of our church directed at  and upon our sisters in Christ. Women are equals before God and must be treated as equals by Christ’s church. As moderator of the Universal Church Reform, I have worked hard to bring this initiative to this platform and garnered the support of a talented woman to lead it.
  •  As a parent of four children, I have always taught them that they can do anything in life. I’ve encouraged them to seek God’s help in their lives. I believe that VOTF understands that our church denies men and women the recognition that God does lead them and all mankind to their true vocations in life. By denying men and women the freedom to married priestly ministry is to place an unwarranted injustice in their paths.
  • As a parent who has protected my children from harm, I believe VOTF understands the critical responsibility our church has in protecting them and must continue to work tirelessly to root out this harm from the church.
  • As a baptized Christian, I believe VOTF understands the barriers that separate the hierarchy from the People of God in a shared and collaborative ministry to Christ in our world. This is the reason I joined VOTF. I am very satisfied in the direction VOTF is going and the talented people who are apart of the organization.
  • Since becoming a member, I have done only what I can and that is to be involved. I have been apart of the UCR as a member and now as moderator. I accepted the responsibility of moderator and the challenge of developing this platform and its three initiatives.
  • I volunteered to make a presentation at the Hartford meeting, to use my name in promoting the Voices In Action Campaign and to speak at the National Conference on Long Island. I have enjoyed all of these opportunities and look forward to more in the future.
  • I believe as Secretary that I can add my long history with the church i.e as seminarian, religious school administrator, development official for an Archdiocesan Seminary and Catholic University, member of a covenant community to our discussions.
  • I believe as an academic (PhD in Educational Leadership), I can bring these talents to the Executive team.

Thank you for the opportunity to Serve more and for your trust in me.

Sincerely, Dr. Nick Mazza
